English is the platform from which all learning occurs and so we equip pupils by ensuring they develop effective, transferrable reading skills and by teaching them to express themselves clearly both verbally and in a variety of writing styles. We stress the need for the correct use of grammatical structures, spelling and punctuation. While literature is studied from many genres and periods, we also encourage pupils to read widely for pleasure and we actively promote creative writing.
