While inspiring literature is studied from many genres and periods, we also encourage pupils to read widely for pleasure and give them the tools to become confident and skilled communicators. Pupils tell us they really enjoy the stimulating variety of our lessons!
We recognise that English is the platform from which all learning occurs and so we equip pupils by ensuring they develop effective, transferrable reading skills and by teaching them to express themselves clearly both verbally and in a variety of writing styles. As you would expect, pupils also learn to make correct use of grammatical structures, spelling and punctuation. The majority of our Year 11 pupils are expected to take the English Literature IGCSE as well as the English Language IGCSE.
