Mathematics

We aim to foster an enjoyment and fluency in Mathematics, leading to success and confidence in this vital subject. Problem-solving and critical thinking strategies are interwoven into the Mathematics syllabus, developing the pupils’ ability to think independently.

Pupils regularly take part in the UK Maths Challenge which stimulates interest in Maths and tests pupils’ reasoning and mental agility. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded to top performers. This year’s medal winners for the Intermediate Challenge are shown below.

James’s Story

James’s results in Maths, Science and English were more than sufficient to allow him to take up the place he had been offered at Tiffin Boys’ Grammar School in Kingston. He achieved A* in Maths and Art, A in Religious Studies, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and B in English, Spanish and ICT, and C in English Literature. His ICT qualification, the ECDL British Computer Society Level 2, was achieved in Year 10. Tiffin School has extremely high entrancerequirements and is hugely oversubscribed.

The school has been sufficiently flexible to enable my son to take his Maths GCSE in Year 10, where he achieved an A*. He is now studying for his Maths AS a year early.
