We believe that all pupils should be encouraged to strive to achieve and learn including those who are especially talented or gifted in a subject. Teaching is differentiated so no individual is held back by another, and those who excel are given work that further extends their learning. We provide the opportunity for gifted and talented pupils to study beyond what is expected of their age level and to take GCSE exams early if appropriate, after which they can go on to take AS levels in Year 11. We also recognise that pupils may have great potential in subjects which is as yet unrealised. We do not believe that just the top 5% of pupils are gifted and talented but look for attitude and aptitude when looking for this potential and work to assist these pupils in achieving their potential through developing their skills and self-confidence.
As part of the enrichment opportunities provided, pupils may be invited to participate in after-school extension classes that focus on the acquisition of particular skills. Pupils also take part in competitions such as the UK Mathematics Challenge and the Young Business Writer of the Year.

The good curriculum is broad and balanced and tailored annually to meet the needs and interests of each cohort. Consequently, all students, regardless of ability, background or educational need make good and, for some, outstanding progress.
